These derivatives are typically used to produce industrial materials such as nylon and other synthetic textiles.  Along with the production of useful industrial compounds, cyclohexane is also used to manufacture benzene, an essential raw ingredient for the production of various plastics, dyes, epoxies, and certain pharmaceutical products.

Cyclohexane is also very commonly used in laboratories as a non-polar, organic solvent. It is often chosen for dissolution and extraction techniques because of its immiscibility and insolubility in water. In addition, cyclohexane is used in the calibration of certain laboratory equipment, such as differential scanning calorimetry instruments.
